Head Coach Chijo Takeda Resigns

(The following is a letter I sent out)

WHS Wildcats, Coaches, Friends, Colleagues:

I've decided to resign as the head volleyball coach at Wilsonville High.

Several reasons prompted me to seriously consider this over the past few months. As you know, I had our first kid last April and I feel like I missed out on 4 months of his life during the volleyball season. Don't get me wrong, I fully enjoyed coaching the team and put over 100% of my efforts/energy into the program. I wouldn't have it any other way. Unfortunately, I can't have both worlds ... my new family/baby and full time high school coaching; at least for now. Bottom line is: I want to raise my kid ... be a dad.

I definitely want to be there 100% for my kid and we've actually changed our day care schedule so I'm taking care of him at home 3 days out of the week. It's working out great and enjoying every moment.

Also, many of you know that I run my own web design business and that has taken a back seat during the fall the past few years. It's always a challenge to get that back on track once the season is over. My clients deserve better customer service. Again, I just go nuts with volleyball and many other things become secondary.

Over the past few months, I've re-prioritized my life and decided I want to and need to put all my energy into my business and family. I love coaching and teaching volleyball so I won't give that up completely so I'll still continue to coach club ball with PVC. In my opinion, club, although a longer season, is a better fit for my current life because it's not every day. In club, I'm coaching only one team and not managing a whole program. I think it's a great balance and compliment to my life. I can't give up volleyball coaching ... I love it too much.

It's not easy giving up something I love to do. I will miss working with the upcoming players from JV and JV2. Our staff has worked hard to build a great program at WHS. Both JV teams had great winning seasons this past fall so I expect Varsity to be very competitive again this fall. JV had a record of 13-1 in conference. That's amazing and shows the talent coming up for this fall's varsity. I wish them the best of luck and hope to catch a few games in between diaper changes.

Wildcats: We had a great run the past few years ... consecutive league champs, undefeated conference, 4th at State, 3rd at State, camps, coast trips, travel tournies ... great times and great memories!

Players: I've completely enjoyed working with you and wish you the best with your future endeavors in volleyball, school, and life.

Coaches and Colleagues: I want to thank you for your camaraderie, support and good times.

WHS staff: A huge thank you to the great support from our school staff. We would not be able to accomplish much without the hard working people like Mike Henderson (AD), BJ Cerny (Ath Sec), book keepers, administrators, teachers, the list goes on. Thank you.

Best,
Chijo
